Dr. Fred Hammond spent his childhood years growing up in a very small town on the Eastern shore of Maryland. In high school, he was an honor student and received all-state athletic honors in football and baseball. The year of his graduation, he was one of sixty players selected to play in the annual Delaware all star football game which benefits underprivileged children in the state.
Dr. Hammond received his Bachelors degree from The University of Bridgeport where he was a Dean's list student, quarterbacked the U. B. Purple Knights , received a BA in chemistry and became a proud father when his first daughter, Amy was born.

Dr. Hammond graduated in 1976 from the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry with many honors including selection to the Gorgas Prosthodontic Honor Society. Upon completion of Dental school, Dr. Hammond was selected to serve as a General Practice Resident at The Naval Hospital San Diego.
As a General Practice Resident, Dr. Hammond received advanced training in many speciality deciplines of dentistry. Here, he became interested in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It was also during the GPR year that his second daughter, Leigh, was born. Leigh, like Amy, instantly became a source of inspiration and pride.
After the internship year in San Diego, the family was transferred to Iwakuni Japan where Dr. Hammond served for three years as a general dental officer in the U.S. Navy Dental Corp. . Dr. Hammond served as the clinic oral surgeon for much of that tour so his oral surgery experience and interest grew tremendously during these years.
After three wonderful years in Iwakuni, Japan , Dr. Hammond returned to San Diego and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in 1983 at San Diego Naval Hospital where he served with some of the finest oral and maxillofacial surgeon mentors in the world. Dr. Hammond developed a special interest in bone graft reconstruction of the jaws and carries on that interest today.
He served as the head of oral surgery at the Naval Hospital Guantanomo Bay, Cuba after completion of the residency. In 1985, after leaving Guantanomo Bay and retiring from the active duty Navy, Dr. Hammond returned to San Diego to start a private practice. He joined the group of Drs. Golec, Cutri, Maw and Berger. The experience gained from working with these fine surgeons was the spring board to the development of a new practice in Mission Valley. Today, Dr. Hammonds professional interests lean toward dental implants and bone graft preparation for dental implants. He also enjoys orthognathic surgery and jaw reconstruction as well as more routine dental oral surgery such as wisdom teeth and dental extractions. He is a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, the California Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association.
Dr. Hammond loves his profession and especially enjoys the many wonderful patients for whom he is privileged to care. He also enjoys getting away from the office for an escape. He is a tournament level tennis player at the 5.0 level and has won numerous trophies and awards for tournament victories. When not on the tennis court, he also enjoys traveling, photography, Jimmy Buffett music and the beautiful beaches of San Diego and around the world.
Dr. Hammond resides in San Diego. He has two beautiful daughters, Amy and Leigh who are both professional women and reside in California.
